Dermal Fillers
-
If neurotoxins are about "freezing" movement, Dermal Fillers are about architecture. They are injectable gels—most commonly made of Hyaluronic Acid (HA)—used to restore lost volume, sculpt the facial structure, and "fill" deep folds from the inside out.
Think of them as the "internal spanx" for your face: they provide the lift and support that our fat pads and bone structure lose as we age.
-
Most modern fillers (like Juvéderm, Restylane, and Belotero) use Hyaluronic Acid, a sugar molecule naturally found in your skin that can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water.
Immediate Volume: As soon as the gel is injected, it physically occupies space, instantly smoothing out a wrinkle or plumping a lip.
Hydro-Retention: The HA draws moisture into the area, keeping the skin hydrated and "bouncy" from the deep layers.
Structural Support: "High-G-Prime" (thicker) fillers act like scaffolding when placed against the bone, allowing injectors to "rebuild" a chin or cheekbone without surgery.
Reversibility: One of the best parts of HA fillers is that they are reversible. If you don't like the result, an enzyme called Hyaluronidase can dissolve them in minutes.
-
Instant Gratification: Unlike Botox or Sculptra, you see the results the second the needle leaves your skin.
Facial Contouring: It can create a "snatched" jawline, higher cheekbones, or a straighter nose (Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty).
Deep Fold Correction: It’s the go-to for "Nasolabial Folds" (smile lines) and "Marionette Lines" that are too deep for lasers or neurotoxins.
Feature Enhancement: Customizing lip shape, size, and hydration for a perfect pout.
-
During: Most fillers are mixed with Lidocaine (a numbing agent), so the area numbs as the treatment happens. You’ll feel a "tugging" or "pressure" sensation.
After: Swelling is the most common side effect, especially in the lips (which can look much larger for the first 48 hours). Bruising can happen, so it’s best to avoid aspirin or alcohol for a few days before.
The "Settling" Phase: It takes about 2 weeks for the filler to fully integrate with your tissue and for the swelling to vanish. This is when you see the "true" result.
Duration: Depending on the product and the area, results last anywhere from 6 months (lips) to 2 years (cheeks/jaw).
-
The Mid-Face: Restoring sunken cheeks or filling "Tear Troughs" (hollows under the eyes).
The Lower Face: Smoothing smile lines, defining the jaw, or lengthening a recessed chin.
The Lips: Adding volume, defining the "Cupid's bow," and smoothing "smoker's lines."
The Hands: Rejuvenating bony or veiny hands to look more youthful.
